Hahyeri, from Korea, had the option of studying in the United States or Belgium, but she couldn’t find the right programme that combined her interests. Hahyeri’s background is fine arts, and she was keen to study special effects make up, but more importantly wanted to study in the best place in the world for these qualifications.

Hahyeri researched subjects and colleges, and soon found Cut Above, which offered a programme that is not available in many countries in the world. Combining her love of detail and design with special effects has led her down a new career path she is very excited about.

Studying makeup and special effects makeup has been fascinating for Hahyeri as she has found that its very different doing makeup on Asian faces and Western faces because of the different bone structures. By learning the basic techniques she now knows the efficient way to create special effects makeup, which is very helpful when under pressure!

Hahyeri began the programme this year, and is enjoying every moment of her study. She still has much to learn, but is so thrilled she found the perfect course which challenges her to create amazing work. Another benefit for Hahyeri has been all the new Kiwi friends she has made at school, and while travelling around the beautiful New Zealand countryside.
