Cut Above students shine at AUT fashion show

Cut Above Academy students have had the opportunity to put their industry-ready skills to the test at AUT and Dove Hospice’s Fashion Hacktivism show.

The fundraising event for Dove Hospice and Wellness was held in early May and saw AUT fashion students give new life to damaged secondhand clothing on the runway.

More than 40 one-of-a-kind pieces were modelled at the sold-out show, with hair and makeup completed by Cut Above students.

For Cut Above makeup student, Hannah Forster, the night confirmed fashion was the industry for her.

“This was my first experience with the pressure and the fashion environment, and I loved it,” shared Hannah.

Students were able to experience real-world pressure, with limited time to complete hair and makeup looks.

“I’ve learnt how to apply makeup swiftly but still with quality.”

“For my last model, I only had 15 minutes to do her whole face! Which was very stressful, but also so much fun!”

The event was centered around inspiring attendees to choose second-hand over new – with an interactive styling workshop, a boutique preloved clothing sale and raffle door prizes as part of the night.
